Will mounting Jaguars injuries have an impact on training camp?

With OTAs and minicamps complete there is one thing that may become a slight concern heading into training camp for the Jacksonville Jaguars, that concern is injuries. Several players were either left out, limited or got hurt during OTAs and minicamp and the amount of players effected could rise some slight alarms.

Let’s begin with cornerback Jalen Ramsey. He sustained an injury to his core muscle which required surgery. The injury is considered to be something like a sports hernia, which often times doesn’t need surgery. Ramsey needed it, noting the severity of that injury. It is unknown at this point whether he would be available by the start of training camp.

Also hobbled in the defensive back field were safeties Tashaun Gibson and Barry Church. During OTAs they did most of their work on the side. It’s unsure exactly what kept Gibson and Church out of major drills, but they were healthy enough to at least make it to the field and work out slightly. Cornerback Aaron Colvin was on the side. Not having four players available in the defensive back field prior to training camp can become a concern. Especially Church since he is a free agent. The more reps the better it is for him to get situated with the defense.

Running Back T.J. Yeldon and TE Neal Sterling were two players on the offensive side of the ball that were working out on the sideline. For Yeldon at least it can set him back as there’s an open competition for starting RB between he, veteran Chris Ivory and first round draft pick Leonard Fournette. How much this will effect the competition in training camp is anyone’s guess. There are no reports Yeldon will be effected by training camp, but it’s the NFL and teams will always throw smoke screens, especially with injuries.

Obviously the defensive back field right now is the most effected by the injury bug. They have yet to see the field as a complete unit and will need to get down to business once training camp begins. Ramsey may be the biggest question mark because we don’t know his recovery schedule at the moment.
