The USF Bulls come off the bye week for the final stretch of the American Conference regular season with two things on their mind: go get a huge road win at Memphis and stay alive for possible East Division tiebreaker win.

The first part will not be easy, as the Tigers come off a 51-7 destruction of SMU last Saturday and behind QB Riley Ferguson, have repeatedly demonstrated the ability to put points on the board. The Bulls have passed previous road tests at Syracuse and Cincinnati, but honestly, they are both bad teams. Their first real road opponent was Temple a few weeks back and the Owls ran for over 300 yards and wiped them out.

While we’ve well documented that the USF offense behind QB Quinton Flowers and RB Marlon Mack is explosive and will likely score in bunches themselves Saturday in the Liberty Bowl, it’s their defense that is the recent concern. Two weeks ago, Navy and QB Will Worth racked up huge numbers in a 2nd half rally in Tampa where, the Midshipmen scored 45 points and had over 500 yards of offense. The Bulls have to figure it out and quick.

Now onto Temple, and the unlikely scenario of them losing one of their final two AAC games. Because the Owls have beaten USF and UCF, they control their own destiny to win  all tiebreakers with the Bulls and the Knights. They will play on the road next Saturday (11/19) at Tulane, who doesn’t have much in the way of quarterback play, but can run the ball some. That’s a tough task if you are a Bulls or UCF fan. Finally, the Owls will welcome East Carolina on 11/26 and again, it’s not likely the Pirates will win in Philly on Senior Day with the East title riding on it. Again, not likely to happen.

Then, again, that’s why you line up and play and the Bulls must strap up and be ready for the initial challenge at Memphis Saturday night.

Then, likely find a church, priest, voodoo….something, to get a Temple loss.
