Rapid Recap: Bulls start fast, break records, blast Navy

Florida Football Insiders

After being pummeled on the ground by Temple last Friday night, the USF Bulls responded with their own ground assault, raced out to a 28-0 lead over Navy early and never looked back in a 52-45 win in Tampa.

QB Quinton Flowers answered all questions about his hamstring tweak late in the Temple game by roaring past the Navy defense on he fourth play of the game for a 63 yard TD and USF led 7-0 1:11 into the game. Flowers finished with 176 yards rushing, 395 total yards and 4 total TD’s in the offensive romp.

Leading 14-0, stud running back Marlon Mack broke the game wide open for USF here:

The 85 yard TD is the longest of Mack’s explosive career and the Bulls were well on their way. He finished with 125 yards for his fifth 100 yard game this season.

The Bulls broke the program record for rushing yards with 419 and also had three 100 yard rushers in a game for the first time ever.

To their credit Navy did not quit, and behind star QB Will Worth, a Tampa native, and the triple option, they piled up points after halftime. Worth ran for over 100 yards and 4 rushing TD’s plus two more TD’s in the air.

Navy finished with 45 points by scoring twice in the final 2:30 of the game, including on the last play of the game, to make the final deficit seven points and dress up the final.

Obviously, coach Willie Taggart’s defense was once again exposed giving up huge plays and points in a game that should have been a laugher in the 4th quarter.

Nonetheless, In the end Bulls hands Navy their first AAC loss, while the Bulls improve to 7-2 (4-1 in the American) and now get a deserved week off.
