In an interesting twist of fate, former USF head coach Jim Leavitt will join former USF head coach Willie Taggart in Eugene, as Oregon’s defensive coordinator according to a report from Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports.

Leavitt was Colorado’s DC over the last two years and helped the Buffaloes turn around to a 10 win regular season and the Pac 12 South title. He obviously, will be staying in the Pac-12 and that familiarity had to be a strong consideration.
Leavitt was the first coach ever at USF, when the team launched the program back in December of 1995. The program’s first season was in 1997. He did such a tremendous job with the the program, that the Big East Conference decided to get back into Florida market after losing Miami to the ACC and picked South Florida to join the conference. That same season Leavitt took the team to their first ever bowl game the Meineke Car Care Bowl. The following year Leavitt would lead the Bulls to their first ever bowl win in the PapaJohns.com Bowl against East Carolina.
The pinnacle of Leavitt’s success at USF happened on October 14, 2007, when the Bulls were ranked #2 in the country. That lasted only one week as they would lose to Rutgers 30-27 in New Jersey.
Leavitt would last until January 2010 when an investigation concluded that Leavitt hit a player in the locker room. Even though he denied the story, the way Leavitt handled the investigation left the school’s administration no choice but to fire their first and only head coach.
As head coach au USF his record was 95-57. There is no doubt Jim Leavitt is the forefather of the USF Bulls football program. He took them from literally non existent to a major BCS conference, to winning bowl games and being ranked. Now he finds himself with a coach that took USF to their best record in school’s history. This time however it’s not in Tampa, but in the pacific Northwest in Eugene, Oregon. The Ducks have themselves one heck of a DC. Taggart is already off to a strong start.
