In a surprising turn of events “All Day” Adrian Peterson is taking his talents to the Big Easy. Interesting enough, Peterson looks to have agreed to a contract with New Orleans. The news was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Media:
On Adrian Peterson: His expected salary from #Saints of $3.25M will be less than Mark Ingram makes in '17. NO is respectful of Ingram's role
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 24, 2017
Peterson made his choice on the same day the defending champion Patriots, who he had also visited, officially inked former Gator and Dolphin running back Mike Gillislee from division foe Buffalo Bills.
The decision has to disappoint Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, who has worked out with Peterson in California and has publicly vouched for the running back. Now, instead of teaming up in the backfield with AP he will be on opposite sides of the sideline on November 5th and December 31st when the Bucs and Saints tangle.
In three games versus the Buccaneers Peterson has had 85 (2008), 120 (2011), and 123 (2012) yards rushing and three touchdowns.
He is arguably one the best running backs we have seen in the NFL and certainly of this generation. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to being a part of a committee that will include former Heisman winner Mark Ingram and how he adapts to the passing juggernaut that can be the Saints offense.
The NFC South is turning into a division to be reckoned with once again, with back to back Super Bowl appearances, and 4 stellar quarterbacks. It’s going to be a race to the finish for the NFC South crown.
