In a game and finish that will be talked about for decades to come, Clemson QB Deshaun Watson threw the game winning 2 yard TD pass to Hunter Renfrow with just :01 remaining to stun Alabama 35-31 in the College Football Playoff Championship Game.

It was a fourth quarter where the lead changed hands four times and it looked as though Alabama had their repeat championship in their grasp when freshman Jalen Hurts raced into the end zone from 30 yards out and 2:07 left to give the Tide a 31-28 lead.

But, they left too much time on the clock for Watson and the All American QB was nothing short of brilliant leading the 68 yard scoring drive drive for the win that will define his legacy at Clemson. Watson completed five straight passes to start the drive. Then, the Tigers got an appropriate pass interference call in the end zone setting up the drama on the next play from the 2 yard line. See it here:

Watson finished an incredible 36-56 for 420 yards and 3 TD’s all in the second half to secure the win. Renfrow had 10 catches for 92 yards and 2 TD’s including the winner.

Alabama was seeking their fifth title in eight years and appeared on their way when Hurts found TE O.J. Howard with a 68 yard bomb in the third quarter and a 24-14 lead. But the Tigers would not die and scored 3 TD’s in the fourth on the outstanding Bama D.

Clemson gets their revenge for last year’s title game defeat to the Tide in the Arizona desert and will celebrate as College Football Playoff National Champs for the first time since 1981.
