The next head football coach of Florida Atlantic Lane Kiffin who was supposed to stay on as Alabama’s offensive coordinator until the Crimson Tide’s season ended has been removed from this position for the national title game against Clemson.
Apparently this was a “mutual” decision. If you hear from Lane Kiffin himself it sounds that way.
“After going through these last couple of weeks, trying to serve the best interests of two universities as an offensive coordinator and a head coach, it became apparent that both programs would be better served by me giving all my time and efforts to being the head coach at FAU,”
“After meeting with Coach Saban during preparations last night and this morning, we mutually decided that it was in everyone’s best interests for the players and the program for Coach Sarkisian to take over all responsibilities as offensive coordinator for the championship game.”
As mentioned by Kiffin, Coach Saban will elevate Steve Sarkisian to OC, which was going to happen anyways, it’s just going down now a week earlier than expected.
If you believe Kiffin, it’s a win-win for everyone, however there is another side to this story. Kiffin was getting roasted all game Saturday in social media with his play calling. Many people believed he was passing the ball too much, when it was clear Washington could not stop the run. Of course this is mere speculation, but it’s some juicy stuff for the media a week before the title game. Looking forward to seeing Nick Saban deflect this.
