All the excitement that was building up for the East-West Shrine Game this week ended pretty much in a dud on Saturday in St. Petersburg. The West won the game 10-3, but there wasn’t much excitement, especially offensively, obviously.
This was a defensive battle with not too much flash involved. FAU DE Trey Hendrickson was a nuisance when he got his playing time and was named the game’s defensive MVP. We highlighted him earlier in the week.
The other player that made some semblance of an impact was FSU’s Kermit Whitfield. He made 3 catches for 31 yards and also was in the game as a punt returner. Though he only gained 11 total yards on the two punts, he shows signs of some potential impact in the NFL. He’s only 5’8, however his speed is what has scouts excited.
Outside of a few plays here and there, this game was underwhelming to say the least. Hopefully next year there will be a lot more to report.
