Good news for running back Doug Martin and the Buccaneers. Martin is back at One Buc Place today and preparing for the start of the team’s offseason workout program.
Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweeted it this morning, but anyone who is a regular follower of FloridaFootballInsiders.com or FanRagSports.com knew this would be the case.
We’ve been reporting since the NFL Scouting Combine at the end of February, that this was next likely step in Martin’s attempt to retain (or is it regain) his place on the Bucs depth chart.
Still, it’s good to know that Martin has fulfilled what was more than likely a vow to the team to be back in place for the start of voluntary workouts.
When last we heard, Martin’s plan was to spend most of March working out on his own in California. The next thing to learn is what kind of shape he’s in after supposedly working on his own.
The Bucs won’t actually take the field for a couple of weeks but still, we should get an indication soon just how prepared Martin is to begin his comeback.
And what a comeback he has ahead of him. In addition to trying to make it back from a hamstring injury that sidelined him last year, Martin is also trying to bounce back from a drug issue.
He still has three games to serve on the four-game suspension he was handed for violating the NFL’s PED policy and he has to prove to the Bucs he’s over that drug dependency issue that landed him in rehab.
