Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter says he’s a big fan of HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” What he’s not a big fan of is being on the show.
“I like watching the show, I just wish I wasn’t on it,’’ Koetter said during the press conference in which the Bucs were officially named the subject of this year’s season of Hard Knocks.
OK, time for a little clarification. Koetter later explained that he what he meant was that he wishes that he personally were not on the show, as in not being mic’d up every day and on camera.
As far as his team being featured, he’s all right with that. Sure, he probably wishes some other team had been selected, but as far as the show’s camera crews creating a distraction, he’s not worried about that.
“Hey, this is the NFL, there’s bright lights,’’ he said. “So I look at it as just part of the deal. I mean, it’ a TV show. The real TV shows are on Sundays in the fall. That’s what worries me.’’
By the way, for those who wish to mark their calendars or set their DVRs, the first of the five Hard Knocks episodes featuring the Bucs will premier on Tuesday, Aug. 8 at 10 p.m. on HBO.
