The barrage of college football bowls begins today and the first Florida team that will be in action, UCF, doesn’t really have to travel far. Instead of playing on campus, they will travel to downtown Orlando and play Arkansas State at Camping World Stadium in the “Cure Bowl.”
When last we saw the Knights three weeks ago, they were beaten badly by USF in Tampa in the finale’ to the regular season to finish at 6-6. And that came on the heels of the Golden Knights being mauled by Tulsa’s ground attack the previous week, where two running backs each went over 100 yards. So, it’s a two game losing streak against a Red Wolves program that knows about about losing streaks themselves.
Arkansas State out of the Sun Belt, started the year at 0-4 but rebounded, obviously, to win seven of their last eight games to get to this game. The Red Wolves feature defensive end Ja’Von Roland-Jones, who with 11.5 sacks and another 18 tackles for loss is the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year. He will obviously look to wreak havoc on the UCF backfield.
Meanwhile, the Golden Knights will feature freshman McKenzie Milton at QB who has been an exciting dual threat throughout the year. Milton has also thrown for at least 210 yards in five starts this season.
While, it isn’t an upper echelon bowl game, it will likely be competitive one in Orlando to get the bowl season underway.
