The Miami Dolphins are set to clash with the Minnesota Vikings tonight in the always exciting (for reserves trying to make the roster) and never dull fourth preseason game.
While this game doesn’t mean much of anything to the starters. It means much more to the coaching staff and front office evaluating those reserves.
The Dolphins will go into tonight’s game looking for a few things in particular: how will the D-line and secondary look, and what can Brandon Doughty do with the offense tonight?
Throughout camp, we have seen rookie Davon Godchaux working next to Ndamukong Suh. DT Jordan Phillips though has come on as of late and won’t go down without a fight. A solid to outstanding performance out of him could lead to him standing next to Suh more often.
Also on the D-line, we should see more of Charles Harris. With Wake likely sitting, Harris, if he plays, can turn some heads and end his up and down preseason on a high note.
In the secondary, we will see the likes of Rookies Cordrea Tankersley and Maurice Smith. Along with Walt Aikens, who is trying to transition back to cornerback from safety. And most likely practice squad bound Tory McTyer. The Phins obviously have issues at DB and are looking for guys in this game that can help.
On the opposite side of the ball, the Dolphins will likely have Moore run a couple of possessions. After that though, Brandon Doughty (above) may see a chunk of the time. With Moore and Cutler being 34 and 33 it’s not out of the question they both could be hurt this season.
We all saw the debacle in last year’s playoff game with T.J Yates coming in. Doughty can reassure Dolphins fans that he can be a very capable third quarterback on the roster.
