The 14th ranked Miami Hurricanes won their first ACC game moving to 4-0 overall with their win in Atlanta over Georgia Tech. Here are three quick notes from the game.
Mark Richt Preaches Consistency And It Shows
One of the things Canes fans were sick of seeing in the previous two coaching regimes was consistency between games and within games. Now after four games against four opponents with completely different looks, you can tell that what Richt has been preaching is paying off. Georgia Tech’s triple option is a tough thing to stop and Miami did give up 267 yards on the ground and that’s with being on the field for 40 minutes. The body language of the players shows it all. They don’t get down on missed tackles and they don’t get too hyped after big plays. That says a lot.
These Freshman Defenders Are Awesome
Holy Cow! Did you see the play of the Freshman? Freshman LB Shaq Quarterman scoops up a fumble scores a TD. Then freshman defensive lineman Joe Jackson picks up a fumble and runs it back for a TD. If you did not, then check out the two defensive scores here:

Also, Freshman LB Michael Pickney was all over the field. It’s hard to believe he’s 18 years old, he plays like he’s 25. Oh and he clinched the game intercepting Tech QB Justin Thomas.
Miami is a Balanced Team
Though the offense didn’t have a world beating performance, they responded each time Georgia Tech scored a TD. In the second half the offensive line didn’t get much push, but it seemed they weren’t trying to make quick strikes. Even with Miami trying to run the clock, Georgia Tech had the ball for 40 minutes. The fact the Miami defense didn’t seem fatigued says a lot about conditioning. Today their defense held it down, and their offense did enough for the Canes to come out with a 35-21 win.
All in all this was a great win for a program looking to get back to the big time. The Mark Richt era begins 4-0 and Canes fans ought to get excited. Next week it’s the Noles
