TE Vitale claimed by Buffalo

As we warned here yesterday, Labor Day weekend Sunday is a busy transaction day in the NFL and to that end, former Buccaneers tight end Dan Vitale won’t be coming back to the team’s practice squad. At least, not just yet.

Vitale, a sixth-round pick out of Northwestern last May, has been claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Bills.

Vitale was considered a rare talent because of his ability to play tight end, fullback even slot receiver, but the Bucs still cut him on Saturday. They opted instead to keep undrafted rookie tight end/fullback Alan Cross, a former walk-on long snapper at Memphis.

Vitale became the third Bucs draft pick to be cut before the start of the season in the last two years.

He joined 2015 sixth-round wide receiver Kaelin Clay and seventh-round fullback Joey Iosefa in that group.
