It’s not anywhere near the same as landing a berth in the Pro Bowl or earning an All Pro nod but being named to NFL.com’s All-Under-25 team is still a pretty nice honor.
And in that regard the Buccaneers have scored a hat trick.
Quarterback Jameis Winston, wide receiver Mike Evans and right guard Ali Marpet have all been named to the website’s offseason 25-and-under squad, released Friday.
The selection of Winston is especially notable because he beat out both Dak Prescott of the Cowboys and Marcus Mariota of the Titans to earn his spot and did so largely because of what’s required of him.
“Winston, the youngest of the three, is asked to do so much more on a football field in spite of that youth,’’ NFL.com media analyst Elliott Harrison wrote.
“Ultimately, Winston’s lack of help – juxtaposed with Mariota’s luxury of leaning on a top-flight running game – landed the Bucs QB a spot on this list.’’
Evans, who won’t turn 25 until August of next year, made the team alongside Odell Beckham Jr. of the Giants, while Marpet made it alongside Panthers guard Trai Turner.
The Bucs were the only team to put three players on the All-Under-25 squad. The Jaguars put had one player named to the team, cornerback Jalen Ramsey, but the Dolphins didn’t place any on the squad.
