(Our Chris Fischer is working the sideline for CBS-TV again this week as the Dolphins host the Bills with Tom McCarthy and Adam Archuleta on the call)
No rush, neither the Bills nor Dolphins will be looking pass the ball. This AFC East showdown will feature two of the hottest rushing teams in the NFL. Buffalo walks in to Hard Rock Stadium leading the league in rushing yards per game. While Miami’s Jay Ajayi is coming off the franchises first 200 yard rushing performance since Ricky Williams wore teal and white.
A big question going in, is if Bills featured running back Lesean McCoy will suit up, today and play? McCoy is the leagues’ second leading rusher, but has been hampered by a hamstring injury. He was limited in practice on Friday and will be a game time decision.
But Buffalo will get first round pick Shaq Lawson on the field for the first time. Lawson (Shoulder) put on the pads and helmet this week for the first time, since playing for Clemson in the National Championship game.
“Oh yeah, he’s playing,” said Rex Ryan after Thursday’s practice. “You can see why we drafted him in the first round.”
The Dolphins suffered a difficult loss this week, placing Pro Bowl Safety Reshad Jones on injured reserve with a torn rotator cuff. Isa Abdul-Quddus and Michael Thomas are expected to share Jones’ duties at Free and Strong Safety.
“You don’t replace a guy like Reshad,” said Adam Gase. “He’s our defensive leader, both in his play and vocally.”
Some history will be on the line as the Bills (4-2) will go for their first five-game winning streak since 2004. For the Dolphins (2-4) a victory would put them back in conversation for possible playoff hopes.
