A year ago this Friday, Willie Taggart stood at the podium in Eugene, Oregon, having left the state of Florida (and USF) to take the Ducks job. A year later, is he about to be back in the Sunshine State?
Taggart, who led Oregon to a 7-5 season that just concluded 10 days ago, is apparently meeting Monday in with FSU officials in Scottsdale, AZ, about the opening created when Jimbo Fisher left last week to go to Texas A&M.
Josh Newburg, an FSU beat writer for 24/7 sports, had the news of the meeting first:
I'm being told this could all go down with FSU and Willie Taggart (one way or another) today and it's all taking place in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Then, a reporter/writer in Gainesville, went “all in” on the “click bait” saying Taggart was the FSU choice and was negotiating a contract:
Sources now confirming Willie Taggart is finalizing contract to become next #FSU head coach. Taggart looking to bring Jim Leavitt with him. Announcement expected later today.

Of course with the number of times the Gainesville/North Florida media swung and missed like Aaron Judge in the MLB playoffs, on Chip Kelly having agreed to/signed/taken the Gators job two weeks ago, you have to take their tweets with 5 GRAINS of salt.
And it didn’t take long for one of the top college football insiders to refute that tweet above:

Notice though, the “as of yet” leaves room for the meeting to be this afternoon in Scottsdale.
Taggart is already slated to be back in Florida to recruit this week.
And since everybody has a “source,” we are told by two of them around Tallahassee that while FSU is very interested in this upcoming serious conversation with Taggart, that it’s not a certainty that they offer or that Taggart accepts, if they do offer him the Noles job.
We wrote on Friday that Taggart would be a strong candidate for an interview.
Taggart obviously did a tremendous job recruiting the state while at USF, and even previously, as Western Kentucky’s head coach.
One of those sources said specifically, “he’s one of the top candidates, but he’s not the only one.”
Meanwhile, they are monitoring things carefully in Oregon tonight. And, the Ducks media knows that Taggart was supposed to visit Houston high school stud receiver Miles Battle in his home Monday night, in advance of the new early recruiting signing day on December 20th.
However, Taggart canceled that visit according to Battle.
Taggart flew to Phoenix to also visit Oregon QB recruit Tyler Shough and then, it was thought the talks with Florida State in Scottsdale were/are happening.
Also, prominent columnist and radio host in Portland, John Canzano, reported Monday afternoon Pacific time that the Ducks and A.D. Rob Mullens may consider pulling the reported new five year 20 million dollar contract offer they put in front of Taggart last week:
Has Oregon pulled the Willie Taggart contract extension off the table? As of 3 p.m., I’m told it remains in play. Here’s what else we know (and I think): https://t.co/45F1x6A5OO
— John Canzano (@johncanzanobft) December 4, 2017
Canzano’s item also references that Mullens is ready to go back to candidates he interviewed last December before he agreed on the deal with the USF coach to come West.
Further, the Orlando Sentinel says that Taggart and FSU are working on the deal and that he is apparently going to back to Eugene Monday night:
