Florida State has had a disappointing season, to say the least. The Noles won dramatically last week over Boston College to get to 5-6 and can save a little more of their season on Saturday, though.

The rivalry game with Florida may have lost some of its shine due to FSUs under-performing season, but this game still matters to the fans. No one on the Noles roster has lost to the Gators, and they sure don’t want to start now.

So what does Florida State need to do to pull off the upset?

The deep ball-

The Noles passing offense has basically been two plays: the wide receiver screen, and the deep ball. WRs Tamorrion Terry and Nyqwan Murray will need to hit some splash plays for the offense. Can QB Deondre Francois get the time to throw these passes, and if so, can he make the throw? We have seen some good and bad from his play, so far this season. FSU will need “the good” in what could be his last game at the Doak.

Running the ball- The Noles finally had some success running last weeks. Cam Akers had 110 yards rushing and will need to find some success against the Gator front. Senior Jacques Patrick, the bigger of the two backs, may be leaned on more as well. The magic question is can the O-line give those backs the holes to run through against a very good Gators front, and also the time for Francois to throw off the play-action.

Defense- The Noles defense has been asked to do a lot this season. With the struggles of the offense, its been up to the defense to step up and keep them in games. The Gators don’t have an explosive offense themselves, but they can run the ball at you with different backs: Jordan Scarlett and Lamichal Perine. The Noles will need to stop the run and force QB Feleipe Franks and company to throw.
