New Noles offensive coordinator Walt Bell setting February tone

There is no doubt that FSU has changed their outlook and energy level after hiring coach Willie Taggart and his new staff. This is especially after former coach Jimbo Fisher apparently decided to basically stop coaching over the last month of his Tallahassee tenure, and bemoan almost everything, except the vegetables on the pre-game meal spread before bolting to Texas A&M.

Meanwhile, Noles fans are particularly interested in what the new coordinators will bring, including the guy who will run/call plays on the offense, Walt Bell.

Bell was hired by Taggart in January from Maryland without any previous coaching connection. And, though he’s got an impressive coaching ascension on his resume’, there is still some intrigue into what the new offense will look like with him at the play calling controls.

FSU has begun some conditioning work this weekend. And, that’s all it is. Conditioning.

No footballs. Much less, helmets, pads or football practice.

Still, to see and hear Bell talking with his offensive players is fascinating.

FSU released a quick video feature showing and hearing Bell doing just that:

We like a couple of the things that Bell is trying to get across to his groups of offense players (during the moments in between having them do drills designed to almost make them throw up).

On his advice about “being the best ever,” Bell tells his players, “Go find out who the great ones are…and just do what they do.”

He followed up with something more on commitment and sacrifice, “There are no secrets in life…..go without. Sleep a little less. Work a little bit more…. You are what you are willing to give up. Willing to give up a little time? You can be special.”

Again, this is line drills and trying to get guys in shape. Nothing more.

But, it’s a glimpse into what’s coming as he tries to mold the likes of Deondre Francois, James Blackman, Cam Akers, etc. into what he and Seminoles fans want this fall.
