How many strikes do you get? Former starting Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois is embroiled in yet another off-field controversy. This after news broke Thursday night that Francois has been cited for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
The Tallahassee Democrat had the story first and then updated it on Friday morning:
Francois entered into diversion program on pot charge https://t.co/5kgzLK10VC

By entering the diversion program, Francois avoids trial proceedings and there will be no arrest record, according to TPD. However, he has more trouble to consider, too.
Earlier in January, Francois was involved in a domestic dispute at his apartment with his girlfriend, in which Tallahassee Police investigated and later determined that no charges should be filed. This was because there was evidence and a witness, that Francois girlfriend was destroying items in the apartment and Francois was trying to stop her. TPD decided they couldn’t determine the instigator vs. the victim in the argument.
The Leon County State Attorney’s office agreed and elected to not file any charges.
Francois appeared to be the Seminoles quarterback of the future after the 2016 season, where he started all 13 games and led FSU to an Orange Bowl win over Michigan.
However, he was injured in the fourth quarter of the opening game of last season against Alabama suffering a patellar tendon tear that cost him the remainder of last season.
Freshman James Blackman took over and while struggling at times, still showed some promise. And, he eventually led Florida State to a 6-6 record in the regular season. Then, they got a bowl win, where he played very well against Southern Miss in December.
Francois is apparently not fully healed this spring and hasn’t been practicing. And, therefore, he has not been cleared to play in the Spring game Saturday in Tallahassee.
FSU obviously, has a new coaching staff under Willie Taggart and other options.
So, you wonder if their former starter is just about out of chances and opportunities with the Noles.
