In a summer where some NFL players have questioned NBA Free Agency/new contracts, you can bet that former FSU star Xavier Rhodes is no longer among them, as Sunday Rhodes got a massive new contract from the Vikings.
Rhodes clued everyone in earlier Sunday afternoon:
The bank account done caught the Holy Ghost!!!!💰💰💰💰

That’s what happens when you catch passes from opposing quarterbacks; you catch a big pay day. The former first round pick had a career high 5 interceptions.
As ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported first on Sunday, the Vikings agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension worth $70 million for Rhodes. This includes $41 million in guarantees along with a $12 million signing bonus. And as Schefter pointed out, the deal also makes Rhodes the 3rd highest paid defensive back in the league.
According to Elliott Rooney at Pro Football Focus, Rhodes only allowed a passer rating of 47.0 in 2016, which was the lowest of any cornerback. His completion rate of 48 percent was the second-lowest among cornerbacks, allowing only 36 of the 75 passes thrown in his direction to be caught.
The scary thing about Rhodes is that there is more room to grow and show improvements and become even better. Rhodes was a 3-star recruit in high school before signing to FSU, as a wide receiver. Rhodes can also improve with his penalty numbers. His 11 penalties were the third-most by any cornerback last season, with seven of those as coverage penalties that resulted in a first down.
Rhodes will get a big test this season in week three, when the Bucs visit the Vikings. Rhodes will put all those stats to the test vs. the Buccaneers high potent offense. Will he be able to shut down either Mike Evans or DeSean Jackson? It definitely will be two great match-ups between some of the best in the game.
The Former Nole looks to kick start a movement for his other Noles looking for long term deals in a few seasons. Among some of those are Jameis Winston, Devonta Freeman, and Kelvin Benjamin.
Who will have a breakout season like Rhodes and be the next Nole up to have their bank account catch the Holy Ghost?
