The Florida State Seminoles had their spring game on Saturday and one player who shined put a lot of smiles on the Seminoles coaching staff. Junior safety Derwin James who had been sidelined seven months with a torn meniscus participated and played like a maniac according to everyone who was able to see the game.

The last time James saw action on a football field was September 10th against Charleston Southern. has more on James at the Spring Game.

Afterwards, all of James’ teammates I spoke to were as highly complimentary of James and what he means to this Florida State defense. With all the lofty praise he is being given by his teammates, it’s easy to see why the defense just wasn’t the same without him last year.

“He’s better than he ever was,” quarterback Deondre Francois said. “He’s always going to be that guy. He’s the quarterback of the defense.”

“I see a new Derwin,” sophomore defensive end Brian Burns added. “Now he is tossing guys. He is getting to the ball, running to the ball, using his moves and using his strength, and I haven’t seen that until this spring.”

Derwin James os going to play a key role for the Seminoles as they compete for an ACC crown. For a young man coming off a pretty serious knee injury, the performance at the spring game is a great sign for Noles fans. Imagine what level he will be come fall camps. This is a scary player for opponents.
