Wanna know why there’s intrigue around whether “Prime Time” Deion Sanders will come to Tallahassee to coach on Willie Taggart’s new staff? Well, aside from his decorated FSU career, and his NFL super stardom that eventually put him in the Hall of Fame, Sanders (above) is tremendous in front of a camera/microphone.

You want the latest example? Here’s the behind the scenes video of Sanders’ pre-game speech to the Noles Wednesday afternoon before they clobbered Southern Miss in the Independence Bowl.

This is tremendous for so many reasons. #1, the fact that Deion appears to be in his actual FSU “letterman’s jacket” from the late 1980’s, while giving the speech to the team, is phenomenal.

Next, when interim coach Odell Haggins introduces “my roommate” from those Noles teams that dominated under Bobby Bowden, you can tell it captured the room.

You want to bring “swagger” back?

That’s how you bring it back.

And Deion’s speech about how the Seminoles used to run rough shot over the rest of the state is compelling, too. This is especially for an FSU team that was basically abandoned at the end by coach Jimbo Fisher and has clearly lost confidence that it once had tons of in reserve.

Will Deion seriously consider an apparent coaching offer from Taggart to mentor the Noles defensive backs and put his lucrative TV career on hold? It’s not likely.

What’s more likely is: that he takes a more active role in coming around the program every once in a while, to motivate at the right times. Like, he did on Wednesday.

Remember, FSU under Bobby Bowden, and with great players like Deion Sanders, had a run in in the 80’s into the early 2000’s of 14 consecutive seasons finishing in the AP Top 5 of their final poll.

That is a standard. A standard FSU is trying to get back to being.
