The Gators and their fans labored through years of Will Muschamp and terrible offensive games and barely winning games at home. Well Saturday in the Swamp, Muschamp was on the other sideline as South Carolina’s first year head coach and it was once again, ugly offense and again, a Gator home win 20-7.
Backup QB Austin Appleby was 17-21 and threw 2 TD’s, including this strike below, as the Gators built a 14-0 first half lead.
This is just a pretty looking pass.

Florida also had a long punt return for TD by Antonio Callaway late in the first half called back by a holding penalty to keep the margin 14 at the break.
Gators Kicker Eddy Pineiro kicked two second half field goals including a 54 yarder, as Florida lead 20-0 going to the fourth.
The Gamecocks did get on the board when running back David Williams scored from 1 yard out to cap an 80 yard drive midway through the fourth. In the end though, Florida’s defense did enough to preserve the victory.
RB Jordan Scarlett ran for a career high 134 yards for the Gators in the win.
Florida now is in position to win the SEC East at LSU next Saturday, in a game that we at F.F.I. have well documented was moved by Hurricane Mathew and Florida refusing to play on the scheduled weekend. The SEC eventually brokered the deal for the game to be in Baton Rouge.
Florida can still win the East with a loss and other help, but that’s their easiest scenario.
