Some QB will get paid seriously by Jaguars and it’s not likely Bortles

Some say money is the root of all evil and in the NFL, most say it’s the roots to retaining your star quarterback.

The Oakland Raiders inked Derek Carr to his massive $125 million dollar extension this week making him the highest payed QB in the league.. Earlier is week we talked about how this affects the Bucs and Jameis Winston with His rookie deal expiration coming more into view.

The Dolphins have Ryan Tannehill locked up for a few years. So, the Jags and Blake Bortles are the only team in Florida left with a quarterback payday dilemma on their hands. Jacksonville did pick up Bortles 5th year option but that’s no guarantee barring an injury. And, we saw last year, some teams will bench the player to avoid that an injury locking in the fifth year.

After having up and down seasons and still working on his mechanics years into the league, Bortles tank is” on E,”and he needs to fill it up and fast. With next year’s draft class as of right now looking salivating on paper is their enough Blake can do to really salvage his job?

With potentially as high as five first round QB’s next year the Jaguars could be in position to get one even with a decent to good year by their veteran quarterback this year.

And now, with the price of the position growing more and more each year and guys like Matt Stafford and Kirk Cousins still not locked up, do the Jags really want to pay an inconsistent quarterback franchise type money?

The answer is probably not. Further, this should make Bortles step up and be the quarterback he knows he can be and put this team in position to fight for the AFC South crown, which could be one of the only ways that option is picked up.

With the new front office led by Tom Coughlin and coaching change, this is no longer the group that brought in Bortles, and they could be itching to bring in their own guy like a Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, or Mason Rudolph from the college ranks.

So, it’s shaping up in Jacksonville for an open audition with a lot of money on the line for Bortles or some other QB that could get paid to lead the Jags, too.
