It’s been a rarity amidst the constant carousel of coaches, personnel and losing over the past decade in Jacksonville to get really excited about anything related to the Jags. But, for the first time in years, they have some serious weapons on offense and probably have the best least nationally known fantasy football commodity at WR in the NFL in Allen Robinson.
For starters, Robinson caught an even 80 passes for a equally tidy 1,400 yards in ’15, but even more impressive was the breakdown and the how he got there: he was targeted 151 times while playing in all 16 games. Translation? He’s a guy that QB Blake Bortles and Offensive Coordinator Greg Olson dial up, over and over and over again, especially on 1st down and when trailing.
A closer look at those two numbers must make you take a long look at Robinson as a Top 10 pick in your draft. He was targeted 70 times on 1st down last season (Almost 5 per game). Hint, that’s a ton. He was also targeted almost 70% of the time (104 of 151) when they were trailing….which the Jaguars tend to do a lot. How did that translate? Robinson caught 56 balls for just over 1,000 yards, a 19 yard average and 11 td’s, while Jacksonville was losing. This means he’s an ideal secret scorer who doesn’t get much national TV pub. (You probably haven’t missed them, but the Jags haven’t appeared on Sunday or Monday Night Football in 8 seasons now).
Look, there’s no doubt that Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, and Odell Beckham are the “sexier” well known commodities and I would probably pick all three of them instead of Robinson. However, you may be picking 8th, 10th, 12th and if you are, the numbers above bear out Allen Robinson deserves your attention, if not your selection.
