Can Jaguars hang in AFC South race?

Matt Zemek

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins both face fascinating decisions about their quarterback situations, but for very different reasons.

This is the cornerstone component of the new Florida Football Insiders Podcast, hosted by Spreaker:

Jason Cole has covered the NFL for 27 years. He has seen how teams artfully handle delicate midseason roster situations, and how they completely mangle them as well. The Jaguars are about to play the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and Tennessee Titans — all three AFC South Division opponents — in the next month of their season.

The choice they make between Gardner Minshew and Nick Foles will be closely studied by the rest of the league. It will carry considerable consequences for the Jags, one way or another. Jason Cole walks through the particulars of this dilemma for a team which occupies an in-between situation near the midpoint of the NFL season.

Jason also looks at the Miami Dolphins’ quarterback duel, which is also complicated but exists in a noticeably different context. The Dolphins are trying to build for the future, and they know that they will need to come up with a convincing answer to their quarterback situation at the 2020 NFL Draft.

What chess moves will the Dolphins have to consider? What details will the front office have to keep in mind next spring, especially since the Dolphins have stockpiled numerous draft picks they can use to support their future quarterback? Jason Cole examines that layered landscape as well.

The new Florida Football Insiders Podcast also looks at college football in the state of Florida. Jamil King returns to discuss Florida State and Miami, and two seasons which have added to the misery felt by Seminole and Hurricane fans.

Jamil confronts the questions surrounding Willie Taggart’s troubled tenure in Tallahassee, exploring what Taggart needs to do to either get out of trouble or stay out of trouble — at least to the point that he can coach this program in 2020.

Jamil also addresses Miami’s underperforming season and tries to find ways offensive coordinator Dan Enos can help Manny Diaz turn this ship around in Coral Gables.

All of these topics are part of the new Florida Football Insiders Podcast at Spreaker. We’re here every week!

Ari Russell

Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

On the latest edition of the F.F.I. podcast, Ari Russell and Roy Cummings are here to discuss the NFL teams in the Sunshine State.

Jameis Winston is on track to return to Bucs practice this week. Is that the best thing long term for him and the organization?

The guys also discuss the Jaguars tough loss to Arizona, but how they still are in good shape to win the division and make the playoffs.

Plus, can the Dolphins salvage anything late in the season with a five game losing streak?  Is coach Adam Gase in jeopardy despite a playoff season a year ago?

Podcast – CFB rivalry weekend and NFL teams on the road

Ari Russell

(USA Today - Kim Klement)

On our latest edition of the F.F.I. Podcast Ari Russell and Olivia Stacey break down the recent College Football standings with Miami jumping Clemson to take the #2 rankings. They then jump into the Canes match up against Pitt on Friday at noon.

Perhaps the most exciting match up all weekend will be the Battle of I-4 where the undefeated UCF Knights take on rival USF. The winner will play Memphis in the AAC Championship game next weekend.

They then do a brief breakdown of Florida/Florida State, however most of that focus is on the coaches. Who is next in line for the Gators and will Jimbo Fisher stay with the Noles?

They shift over to discuss the NFL games, where all the teams are on the road. Ari and Olivia don’t give the Dolphins much of a shot on the road against the Patriots. The Bucs on the other hand have an intriguing game against Atlanta. If they Bucs play like they have been they have a shot to shake things up in the AFC South.

They close out to talk about the Jaguars/Cardinals game where both believe the Jags will continue their winning ways. Considering they are 4-1 on the road and the Arizona QB situation is suspect it certainly plays in the Jags favor.
