Orlando Franklin to work out with Jaguars

Former San Diego Chargers offensive lineman Orlando Franklin has been invited to workout with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Franklin was recently released by the Chargers after a disappointing two seasons playing guard.

The purpose of this move for the Jaguars is mainly to look for options to add depth to the line. The team traded for Branden Albert who is currently not fully satisfied with his current contract that was sent over when the Jaguars traded with the Miami Dolphins for the offensive lineman.  Albert hasn’t had much contact with the team, since being traded for.

Some may see this move to possibly light a fire under Albert to get him moving towards getting ready for the season. With OTAs this week, it isn’t expected to include Albert, but that could obviously change.

Obviously Franklin entered the league in 2011 having some strong years when he played for the Broncos, prior to his disappointments in San Diego. Even if the Jaguars do sign Franklin it won’t be automatic that he gets a starting job on the line. He will have to earn it. It will be interesting to see how the Branden Albert situation plays out and how it may effect whether the Jaguars do end up bringing Franklin on board.
