Former Miami Hurricane Brad Kaaya named biggest steal at QB in Draft

After having about two full months to analyze the 2017 NFL Draft there has been a lot of talk about potential amongst some of the players drafted, especially in the later rounds. One draft expert believes that former Miami Hurricanes QB Brad Kaaya is one of the biggest steals in the draft. Kaaya was drafted in the sixth round by the Detroit Lions.

Luke Esterling of Draft Wire believes when all is said and done, it will be Brad Kaaya who will be biggest steal in this draft, at least at the QB spot. Here is what Esterling had to say:

What Kaaya lacked in eye-popping physical traits, he more than made up for with experience and the ability to limit turnovers as his career progressed. But after foregoing his final season with the Hurricanes to make the early jump to the NFL, Kaaya fell all the way to the sixth round, where the Lions wisely snatched him up as a developmental project to stash behind Matthew Stafford. Don’t be surprised if he becomes valuable trade bait in a few years.

One of the things that made Kaaya drop so far in the draft was that he tended to struggle with his footwork when under pressure. His turnovers certainly went up, but it was mostly his inability to get set and use that last millisecond to either make a completion or throw the ball away. Kaaya took a lot more sacks than scouts wanted to see while he was in college. With that said going to a place like Detroit is a great spot for Kaaya. He can learn the pro game in front of an elite QB in Matthew Stafford and have little pressure.

In addition to Kaaya, Esterling also listed former Hurricane CB Corn Elder as the biggest steal at the nickel position. Edler was taken by the Carolina Panthers in the 5th round. Here’s what Esterling has to say about Elder:

Last year, the Baltimore Ravens spent a fourth-round pick on Tavon Young, an undersized but physical and confident corner who made an immediate impact as a rookie. Elder is a similar player who should have gone at least two rounds earlier in this year’s draft, but landed in a great situation with the Panthers, who need all the help they can get at his position. His playing style and tackling ability make him a perfect fit in the slot, where he could quickly become the starter for Carolina.

That’s two former Canes who are considered the biggest steal at their positions in the 2017 NFL Draft, at least according to one expert. Looking forward to what they do in the pre season games.
