Miami Hurricanes fans might have been concerned that the month layoff after winning four games in a row would be an issue against a 10-2 West Virginia in Orlando at the Russell Athletic Bowl.

Well, after falling behind 7-0 early and struggling himself, QB Brad Kaaya took matters into his right arm throwing three second quarter TD passes and the Canes never looked back in a 31-14 win over the Mountaineers.

Kaaya hit Braxton Berrios with the third of those passes and he took a MAN sized hit for this score:

For his part Kaaya would finish 284 yards and 4 TD’s and was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

The Moutaineers had taken the early 7-0 lead on a Kennedy McCoy TD run, but it was short lived, as Miami dominated after that.

WVU’s QB Sklyar Howard was held in check with only 134 yards passing. Howard did have a second half TD rushing and finished with 63 yards on the ground. But, they never really got a rally together against the fiesty fast Miami D.

The Canes win a bowl game for the first time since 2006. It’s also the first time they have ended a year with at least five straight wins, including a bowl win, since the title year of  ’01.

Those stats mean you have to consider coach Mark Richt’s debut season officially a success.
