When the Pitt Panthers shocked the college football world on Saturday when they took down Clemson, the rabid selfish fan in me thought of what this meant for the Miami Hurricanes. The Canes beat Pitt two Saturdays ago 51-28, it was a dominant performance. Now that Pitt has a win over Clemson, at Clemson, it makes Miami’s win that much more impressive.

Let’s also for a second take a look at the ACC. The conference has been dogged over the past several years for being weak. This season however has been different, because overall as we are witnessing, it’s been a extremely competitive. And the teams have held their own out of conference.  Going back to Pitt, let’s not forget they already had a win earlier in the season against Penn State, which makes that two wins over top 10 teams for Pitt. Clemson beat Auburn at Auburn earlier this year. Florida State took down Ole Miss and South Florida. If FSU knocks off Florida and Clemson takes out South Carolina, which they both ought to, the ACC would have handled their business pretty well out of conference.

So for Canes fans, I know this has been a tough year. That four game losing streak was tough to stomach. But the team is on a two game winning streak, where they dominated their opponents on both sides of the ball. They should win these next two games, which would make them 8-4 overall. But that Pitt win looks much much better than it did when it happened.

As for the ACC moving forward this season, Clemson still is on pace to get into the CFB Playoff. Louisville is right there too. It would be interesting to see two ACC teams in the playoff, but that isn’t likely. It is safe to say, that this conference is really really good. And Maybe that four game losing streak the Canes faced, wasn’t so terrible after all. Okay it was terrible, but come on! Let’s be optimistic we could be going bowling in Birmingham or something in mid December. Awesome!
