The Miami Hurricanes find themselves smack dab in the middle of the college football playoff picture after their huge win over Notre Dame this past Saturday. The Canes who were ranked 7th in last week’s rankings jumped to #3 in this week’s poll, putting them is great position to make college football’s final four. Here’s what the top ten is looking like this week.
- Notre Dame
- Ohio State
- Penn State
For Miami their toughest opponent will be against #2 Clemson in the ACC Championship game. They will have to handle their business against Virginia at home this Saturday and Pittsburgh on the road the following week before their clash against Clemson.
A lot of Miami fans have been a little upset about being ranked 3rd despite being unbeaten and holding onto the nation’s longest winning streak going back to last season at 14 games. They feel that Clemson’s loss is big enough for Miami to be ahead of them. There is quite the argument for this narrative. Clemson’s sole loss is to a 4-6 Syracuse team, a squad whom Miami has beaten. That said it will sort itself out at the ACC Championship Game. Simple and plain, Miami beats Clemson they will move ahead.
This also marks the first time the ACC has two teams in the top 4 since the College Football Playoff rankings came out. Also Clemson’s #2 ranking also shows the committee’s respect for the ACC, which is seemingly becoming more frequent in recent years considering Florida State and Clemson beating SEC teams in the national title games in years past.
There’s still a heck of a lot of football to be played this year. There usually are a few upsets that occur this time of year that shakes up the foundation. For Miami they have to worry about a let down loss to Virginia. Luckily the game is at home and the crowd will likely still be jacked up from the Notre Dame game . Something winning does that makes the environment more exciting.
