According to a league source via the Miami Herald, the Miami Dolphins are planning on having LB Zach Brown visit the team this week. Brown is the top remaining free agent LB left on the market.
Last season Brown played for the Buffalo Bills and amounted 149 tackles, four pass defended, an INT, Four sacks, and two forced fumbles. Quite a productive season for the line backer.
In addition to the Dolphins, it’s also been reported that the Oakland Raiders are also in hot pursuit of Brown.
If Zach Brown does indeed sign with the Dolphins, they would have perhaps the best linebacker core in the NFL. With the singing of Lawrence Timmons and locking in to keep Kiko Alonzo that unit would be at least on paper very productive.
One of the positive things of signing Zach Brown, would mean they would add a versatile player that can play all three line backer positions. It also would mark a strategy to try to contain the New England Patriots offense, which has dominated the division for over a decade and a half.
What would it mean if the Dolphins land Brown? It means they are serious about trying to stop New England and win the division. Of the teams in the AFC East, the Dolphins on paper are the closest to steal the division. Could Brown be that one piece to complete the puzzle? No one is certain, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt.
