As the 2017 SEC Media Days came to a close this week, the media was polled on their take to win the 2017 SEC Championship.
By no surprise, Alabama is expected to take home the SEC West, and overall championship, after receiving 225 first place votes and 1,683 points overall. Auburn came in second in the voting with 1,329 points and LSU was third with 1,262 points.
Interestingly, though, the media narrowly chose the University of Georgia to edge out the two-time defending SEC East champion, University of Florida. Georgia garnered 138 first-place votes to Florida’s 96 votes to with the East, followed by Tennessee coming in third.
These polls have not played out as the media has predicted in the past. Only four times in the last twenty years, the media has correctly predicted the champion at SEC Media Days.
The preseason All-SEC teams were also announced Friday. Alabama leads all teams with a staggering ten players receiving first-team All-SEC selections, the most by far for an SEC Media Day All-SEC team.
The Gators had two players chosen for the All-SEC first team. Offensive tackle Martez Ivey was selected on the offensive side of the ball and cornerback Duke Dawson was selected on defense.
As for the predictions of the East division? Florida wasn’t picked to win it in either of the last two media polls, yet wound up in Atlanta.
