Those who closely follow the NFL know that Bucs defensive tackle Gerald McCoy has been a growing dominant force inside for going on five years now. For those who are casual fans of the game, they are about to find out a lot more from HBO and NFL Films.
With training camp approaching at the end of the month, HBO will cover every angle and aspect of Tampa Bay’s training camp and the former #1 pick out of Oklahoma in 2010 is almost a guaranteed subject.
In addition to terrorizing interior lineman and QB’s, McCoy, who’s made the last five Pro Bowls, is known for his smile, raising his family with young children and also, his love for Marvel Comics and their movies.
ESPN “E:60” did a full feature on McCoy that aired that last season:
It’s obviously touching about McCoy dealing with the death of his mother prior to the start of his NFL career. And, Gerald is also best known on Draft night for the original “Goodell Hug” at the 2010 Draft. Now, almost every first round pick in attendance hugs the commissioner on stage.
Back to HBO and “Hard Knocks,” they will be following the Bucs for five weeks with cameras and microphones everywhere in 24/7 access. McCoy promoted a video “tease” earlier this week that HBO has put together:
While Jameis Winston, Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson and first round pick O.J. Howard will obviously be touted by the Network and NFL Films on offense. McCoy is legitimately the leader of the Tampa Bay defense. That crew, that includes the likes of LaVonte David, Robert Ayers Jr., Kwon Alexander, and Brent Grimes improved greatly in the second half 2016. McCoy has seniority with the Bucs over them all and is one of the true leaders coach Dirk Koetter can count on.
And, you won’t be disappointed by what you see and learn about McCoy from HBO’s training camp access with him.
