Should American give Player of Year to UCF’s QB Milton already?

Another week and another dominant performance from UCF quarterback McKenzie Milton in the knights 45-14 blow out of Pitt.

His production was identical with six total touchdowns accounted for throwing and receiving. And, likewise, it’s an identical American Athletic Conference offensive football player of the week award for this week, too.

Milton, who led the Knights to their 17 consecutive victory dating back to last season, threw for 328 yards and four touchdowns and had two more scores on the ground rushing for 51 yards in the Saturday afternoon blowout of the ACC Panthers.

After the conference announced Milton as it’s offensive player of the week late-morning Monday, they should have seriously considered already penciling the junior signal caller from Hawaii in as the Player of the Year.

This is because, they’ve only given out the offensive player of the week award four times this season, and Milton has now won three of them.

That includes his smashing debut in game one against conference opponent UConn, where Milton threw five touchdown passes in another easy win.

All things being equal, if Milton stays healthy, it doesn’t look like there’s any way he will slow down between now and the end of the Knights conference games.

The Knights will host SMU coming this weekend at Spectrum Stadium and then we’ll play arguably their toughest road game of the season at Memphis in 2 weeks. The Knights and Tigers played an epic double overtime AAC Championship Game in Orlando last December won by UCF.

That victory propelled the Knights into the Peach Bowl as an unbeaten 12-0 team who eventually upset the Auburn Tigers on New Year’s Day.

The AAC also announced on Monday that the UCF-Memphis game will be a 3:30 Eastern on October 13th in Memphis on either ABC or ESPN for most of the country to see.
