It was a matter of time that the NFL came to it’s senses and bowed to public scrutiny/shaming that UCF LB Shaquem Griffin, coming off an outstanding final season, and invited to the scouting combine in Indy.

The story was first reported by Orlando Sentinel UCF beat writer Shannon Green:

Griffin just completed the week of practices and the 2018 Senior Bowl game in Mobile, AL. And he did not hide the fact that the NFL had snubbed him so far and that he didn’t understand why he hadn’t got the invite.

In this conversation with NFL Network after one of the practices, Griffin got off the great line regarding those still doubting his ability to play on Sundays, “I got a surprise for you.”

Shortly after the reports of his invite surfaced, Griffin confirmed the invite himself on social media:

Griffin won the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and obviously had a tremendous impact with QB sacks and pressures in UCF’s upset of Auburn in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s afternoon.

And, it didn’t hurt his cause one bit, that he held his own throughout the Senior Bowl workouts and drew praise from numerous analysts and outlets that he should get mid-round draft consideration, at the minimum.

There was also this light moment during the second half of the game Saturday, when NFL Network sideline reporter Alex Flanagan was trying to do a second half in game interview with Griffin.

Griffin was supposed to be on punt coverage for the South team and it definitely made for a “fun” moment in the all star game. In the end, it was all good.

The importance of the NFL Scouting Combine is that more teams who got to see what he could do at the Senior Bowl last week, can now scrutinize, interview and be around him at a key process that leads to the NFL Draft.
