Before the start of the 2017 season if you were to rank the top quarterbacks in the state one would probably say Deondre Francois, Quinton Flowers or even, Malik Zaire.
Fast Forward to now and neither Francois or Zaire are playing, and both of those offenses are scuffling. Flowers has been good at times, average other times.
Leading us to Orlando, where UCF QB McKenzie Milton is stating his case as the best signal caller in Florida. The sophomore from Kapolei, HI has been leading a prolific air attack, as a big part of the reason for the Knights 5-0 start. His 1489 yards with 15 touchdowns to just two interceptions are the best numbers in the state.
Comparing these numbers to his counterparts: James Blackman has only 799 yards with five touchdowns and four picks. Feleipe Franks has 794 yards with three touchdowns and three picks.
The only comparable players on par with Milton are Malik Rosier of Miami and Flowers.
Quinton Flowers has been better with 1118 yards with ten touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Bulls have been great as well, But UCF has had the slightly better offense.
Malik Rosier has 1371 yards with 12 touchdowns and three interceptions.
Before you point out that Miami is an ACC team playing better competition than the AAC, let’s take a look at their best games respectively.
Rosier was 27/36 for 333 yards with three touchdowns and an interception vs. Toledo in the second game of the season. Milton was 16/21 with 360 yards with four touchdowns and an interception vs. FIU in the first game of the season.
Toledo is the 43rd ranked team in passing yards while FIU is ranked 44th.
Milton has also been a problem for opposing defenses on the ground. He had six carries for 94 yards vs. Maryland and 11 for 88 yards vs. Memphis.
Milton is coming off of AAC offensive player of the week honors. He had 324 yards with touchdowns of 48 and 4 yards respectively. He also added a rushing touchdown before coming out of the game midway through the third quarter Saturday night.
Milton is also ranked second nationally in passing efficiency (203.6) this season.
If the Milton can continue this dominance the rest of the way, he could have his Knights making a “New Year’s Six” appearance.
