The momentum of UCF perfect season and Peach Bowl win put them on the map with NFL teams and fans. DB Mike Hughes is hoping that notoriety will help his draft stock at the NFL Scouting Combine starting this week.

Hughes played only one season for the Knights, but it obviously was a memorable one. And, not only did he make solid and spectacular plays as a defensive back, but he had one of UCF’s plays of the season (above) with his game  wiinning kickoff return for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter in their thrilling 49-42 win over USF last November.

Hughes, who’s listed at 5’11 185 lbs. (the Combine will measure officially), finished 2017 with 4 INTs, including one returned for a score. Plus, he had three total special teams TD returns on the season, too.

Hughes is definitely “picking up some buzz.” So much so, that the NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” show brought him up specifically, on Tuesdays Edition.

As Peter Schrager points out, there may be some question marks about his background, but he definitely has a lot of upside and teams are going to want to see and no more about him in person in Indianapolis.

Also, our brothers with NDT Scouting have their latest two round mock draft up and that has Hughes going in the early second round to the Cleveland Browns. Here was their thought process about Hughes in that spot:

  1. Cleveland Browns: Mike Hughes, CB, UCF
This could very well be a wide receiver or safety, but the value of Mike Hughes may be too much for the Browns to pass here. Dorsey has taken cornerbacks with baggage before, and Hughes has no. 1 cornerback potential.

No one knows for sure, but there’s a lot of belief that his stock will rise, and he might even, as Schrager suggested, end up being a pick in the middle of the first round.
