One of the players who played a small part in helping turn the Oakland Raiders franchise around last year is now hoping he can do the same for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tight end Mychal Rivera, a four-veteran out of Tennessee who caught 18 passes for 192 yards and a touchdown in 13 games last year signed with the Jags as a free agent on Wednesday afternoon.
“It’s all about winning. Just like Oakland turned it around, I’m ready for Jacksonville to do the same thing.”

“It’s an incredible opportunity,” Rivera told the Jags official website. “I’m just extremely thankful. It takes a lot of hard work to even make it to the NFL, to even get the eyes of scouts.
“To make it to a second contract and to get the opportunity to come to an organization like this and to have the opportunity to show the NFL what I can do and to continue my career and expand what I can do, it’s truly a blessing and I’m happy.”
The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Rivera was a sixth-round selection of the Raiders in the 2013 NFL Draft and has caught 146 passes for 1,413 yards, catching 10 touchdowns in 61 career games (15 starts).
He’s a former high-school (Van Nuys-Birmingham, California High) and college teammate of Jags defensive tackle Malik Jackson and says he’s all about hard work and winning.
“The goal is to win and in order to do that, you have to work hard,’’ Rivera said. “It’s all about winning and just like Oakland turned it around, I’m ready for Jacksonville to do the same thing.’’
