With their rematch with the Titans approaching, there are compelling story lines everywhere for the Jaguars. As we have written, will the Jags go all out, like coach Doug Marrone keeps insisting they will, to try to win the game and eliminate Tennessee from the playoffs?

At the same time, can the Jaguars get healthy enough, especially at receiver, in time for the AFC Wildcard game next weekend, and perhaps, beyond?

And also, for Marrone in his own household: how do I handle my wife and her family’s ties to Tennessee?

For you see Marrone’s wife, Helen, is a Tennessee native. And, her father James “Boots” Donnelly, is the former head coach at Middle Tennessee State in Murfeesboro for 20 seasons, and is in the College Football Hall of Fame because of his success with the Blue Raiders.

Marrone took time to lighten up his Wednesday media session by addressing his “family issues” with this large AFC South match-up Sunday. Here’s the link to the video and the “Titan rooting family” stuff comes up at about 6:20 in.

In his comments, Marrone dead-panned about his wife’s side of the family being Titans season ticket holders¬† “it’s not bad, because it gives me an excuse not to go to a lot of family functions.”

Marrone also revealed that the Titans will be using more “Tennessee karma” in Nashville Sunday, when they use former Vols head coach, and new athletic director, Phil Fulmer, as their “12th Titan.” Fulmer will be recognized prior to to kickoff and to hype the Nashville crowd.

Marrone actually has a relationship with Fulmer, having served for one season, as his offensive line assistant and tight ends coach in Knoxville in 2001. So, there’s yet another connection to the Volunteer state.

There’s football and then there’s family, but as Marrone also said sarcastically about the wife’s side of the family Wednesday, “It’s split…..the majority are season ticket holders (for the Titans)…. but they better know, who the family is and what they want (Jaguars to win).”

The parental phrase, “remember, who’s paying the bills” seems to come to mind on that, too.

It’s just another sub plot for the Jaguars-Titans rematch, which could have a third game the following week.
