It seems the Jaguars just can’t get enough of those joint preseason practices with other teams.
For the second straight August, the Jags are slated to spend a few days hosting the Bucs in a series of workouts ahead of their Week 2 preseason game in Jacksonville, and now it seems they’re trying to organize another series of joint workouts with the Patriots ahead of their Week 1 exhibition opener in New England.
Mike Reiss of ESPN reported this week that the two sides are discussing a joint venture, which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who twice held joint workouts against the Bucs while his old friend Greg Schiano was the coach in Tampa Bay, has long been a fan of the joint workouts, and so too is Tom Coughlin, the former New York Giants head coach who is now the executive vice president of football operations in Jacksonville.
Belichick has made no secret of his level of respect for Coughlin, whom he’s faced off against in the Super Bowl a couple of times, and he’s long had a good rapport with new Jaguars coach Doug Marrone, whom Belichick said earlier in the offseason was, at least in his mind, the best choice for the Jags as the replacement for Gus Bradley.
It looks as though only some logistics have to be worked out in for this second series of joint workouts to become a reality for the Jags.
And Jags fans should be happy about that. As former NFL executive and current host of SiriusXM’s “Movin’ the Chains’’ Pat Kirwan suggested in this tweet this past weekend, the changes the NFL has made regarding how often teams can practice and at what level of intensity during the preseason has made joint workouts more valuable than ever.
Why don't all NFL tms have multiple practices w/other teams like NE w/limited practices it is the best way to evaluate & work on situations

The bottom line is, teams nowadays get a much better idea of what it is they have, not just in their reserve players but in their starters as well, from watching a joint practices than they do from watching intra-squad workouts or in some cases, even preseason games.
