Jaguars lose CB Aaron Colvin and resign Marqise Lee

The Jacksonville Jaguars stayed in the news as the free agency frenzy continues. The Jags lost nickel corner Aaron Colvin to division rival Houston.

A year after the Jags stole A.J. Bouye the Texans swoop in and sign Aaron Colvin.  Colvin isn’t nearly the same caliber of cornerback as Bouye, who notched six picks and allowed an NFL-best 31.6 passer rating in coverage this past season, per Pro Football Focus. But Colvin, 26, features promise after serving as the Jaguars’ slot cornerback and thriving under the radar.

The Jags weren’t done with the day however as they resigned Marqise Lee. Lee will be paid a curious 18 million guaranteed that can be maxed out at 38 million. The number seems slightly less curious due to some of the other wide receiver contracts given on the day. Clearly the WR market price has shot way up.

Lee was originally drafted by the Jaguars in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and his career got off to an uneven start. Over the last two seasons, Lee has been able to stay on the field for the most part and produce.

After deciding to let Allen Robinson head to Chicago, the Jags have high hopes for the combination of Lee, Keelan Cole, and Dede Westbrook.

Jamil King is a young draft pick working his way up the depth chart on the F.F.I. roster, who enjoys watching and writing about all of Florida’s football teams.
