Jaguars land Panthers free agent lineman Norwell with huge deal

Florida Football Insiders

Having allowed Allen Robinson to “walk” in free agency for nothing in return overnight Tuesday, the Jaguars obviously had a different priority- the offensive line.

And they have made a bold/hefty offer to acquire former Panthers guard Andrew Norwell, when they can officially sign him Wednesday:

Who is Andrew Norwell? Great question.

He’s a former undrafted free agent from Ohio State who was a two time All Big Ten offensive lineman, and who’s played the last four years in Carolina. And, in 2017 Norwell was named first team All Pro and is regarded as one of the top 2-3 offensive guards in pro football.

The Panthers have enjoyed tremendous success including their 15-1 regular season in 2015 and Super Bowl L appearance with Norwell starting at left guard. The Panthers were an NFC Wildcard team in 2017 with Norwell starting all 16 games and grading out as a top three guard by Pro Football Focus.

The $30 million guaranteed is a tremendous commitment from the Jags, who are looking to solidify the guard position and upgrade from veteran Patrick Omameh.

Details will come out later, but expect that much of that guarantee will be in the form of a signing bonus for this year, and also in the first two to three years of the deal.
