The hope that Leonard Fournette would be able to return to practice on Wednesday in preparation for Sunday at the Jets was quickly extinguished, when he was once again limited from participating. Thus, casting further doubt that Fournette will be able to play in game.

The Jaguars official injury report came out in the late afternoon with the concerning update:

This is the third week of therapy and rehab on the second year back’s hamstring that was injured in the week one win against the Giants. And, even after not being active for the two games with the Patriots and last Sunday with the Titans, the fact that he’s not able to begin practicing is telling.

Now, Fournette could still try to practice on Thursday, and the Jaguars and coach Doug Marrone could be playing some “cat and mouse” games with their injury report and with the opponent. However, it’s most likely that the team has understood for the last couple of weeks that this would be a two-four week process and is following that timeline to get him back.

If Fournette cannot go, then Jacksonville will, once again use T.J. Yeldon as the primary ball carrier. Yeldon played solidly with seven carries for 44 yards and six catches for 43 yards in the Jags 9-6 defensive struggle defeat to the Titans Sunday. Yeldon played despite a sprained ankle and those numbers were more than respectable.

However, he doesn’t possess the same burst and game breaking capability that Fournette does. The Jaguars have also used veteran running back Corey Grant as their backup to Yeldon the last two weeks.  Though he was ineffective with just 11 yards on six carries against Tennessee.

So the news is not good, whether you root for the Jaguars or have Fournette on your fantasy football team, because it’s not looking like you’ll see him on the field.
