Jacksonville Jaguars starting DE Calais Campbell has really made a great impression in his first season playing for the Jags.  He’s leading the NFL with sacks at 10 which is a career high for him. He’s one of the major forces in a revamped defense, which has been the most productive defense in the NFL this season.

Clearly the culture has changed in Jacksonville and brining in Campbell has been a major reason. We knew that he would be productive, but to be the NFL leader in sacks at this point is still very impressive.

Campbell hosts a weekly podcast on the Vsporto network called “Family Huddle Podcast” which includes his brother former Miami Hurricane Jared Campbell and a close friend Josh Barnes. Each week they dive into talking NFL, but as well as other topics of interest.

This week Calais opened up about being the leader in sacks in the NFL:

“The Jaguars secondary is ridiculous they make my job a lot easier, you know I got to tip my hat off to them man…cause they making me look real good right now…

The real big difference is that we have five quality DBs that are smart and take away the first read. You know it’s a combination of the DBs and me playing a new position…I’m happy with the production, it’s a result oriented business and you have to go out there and produce and get results otherwise you are going to get passed by and sat down…I’m glad that I’m producing, I always expect to produce, you know this is a good year as far as sacks goes. You know it’s a good year with the team you know, the atmosphere…we are starting to build that confidence, and have a real good chance to go to the playoffs, and win the division and make a run for the Super Bowl. I don’t think nobody gave us a chance at the beginning of the year…so for me being put up on the map and people taking Jacksonville serious is all I really care about now. ”

Campbell also talks more about being a defensive end and appreciating the challenges playing in the league.

As you can see from the above quote, he’s quite the humble guy, giving the credit twice to the defensive backs. All he seems to care about is winning and he is certainly one of the main reasons why the Jaguars have a great shot of winning the AFC South and making the playoffs.
