How does Jaguars run game fare without Fournette?

As we have documented all week, the Jaguars top offensive weapon, running back Leonard Fournette, has an injured hamstring. And, he’s been unable to practice all week with it, which makes it obvious to us that he’s not playing in this showdown with New England.

The Jags will likely make that official by making Fournette inactive 90 minutes before the game.

So, now, how does backup T.J. Yeldon fare, if he’s the primary back like we suspect. He had 14 carries for 51 yards against the Giants last week, and is also a pass catching threat. The third string back is Corey Grant and he will likely see some significant playing time spelling Yeldon.

There’s no doubt that QB Blake Bortles’ best friend is establishing the run early, which will help with play action passing going. as well.

Will Tom Brady be Tom Brady?

He’s seemingly ageless and Tom Brady is still ready to break your heart every week. He was good again last week in the opener against Houston, throwing for 277 yards and three TDs in the win. However, that was at home in Foxboro, MA. This one is at the home of the Jaguars, TIAA Bank Field, and it’s probably the toughest regular season ticket in North Florida in over 10 years.

Can the Jaguars pass rush of Calais Campbell, Yannick Ngakoue, Dante Fowler, etc. feed off that crowd and make the future first ballot Hall of Famer’s day miserable? Their ability to rush and hit him will be the biggest key to stopping the Pats Sunday.

Otherwise, he will fire the ball to tight end Rob Gronkowski, or the assortment of his receiver targets repeatedly, and make it a long day for Jacksonville.

Finally, Don’t get overhyped

It will be easy for emotional players like Fowler,  DB Jalen Ramsey, LB Telvin Smith and others to get caught up in trash talking and get off their games.

They might play better at times because of it, but overall, it likely it will cost the Jaguars in a key moment, if they play with reckless abandon.

Whether it’s a personal foul, a blown assignment, whatever. The Patriots are waiting for you to make mistakes and beat yourselves.

We will see if the Jaguars have poise and execution over verbal back and forth.
