Here’s what to watch:

Stopping Patrick Mahomes

There is no disputing that Mahomes (above) has gotten off to the best start (in terms of TD passes) in NFL history. Four games, 14 touchdowns in the air, four wins. This included the Chiefs second half rally on Monday night in Denver to keep them unbeaten. Now, the second year gunslinger has to face one of the best defenses in all of the NFL. A fearsome pass rush led by Calais Campbell, Yannick Ngakoue, Dante Fowler, etc. will have to harass and knockdown, if not sack, Mahomes repeatedly. Else, it will be a long day and likely a loss for Jacksonville.

Will Bortles rise to the occasion, again?

It’s always a hot topic in North Florida and remains this week, can Blake Bortles continue to progress and consistently perform in the big games. This will be another such test, and for the third time in four weeks, RB Leonard Fournette will not be available to help him. He’s inactive again with a nagging hamstring injury, that was re-inured in the second half of last week’s win over the Jets. Still Bortles threw for 388 yards and a crucial game clinching TD pass to Donte Moncrief in the second half. He also was very good with 300+ more yards and three TDs in the win over New England three weeks ago without Fournette.

However, Bortles and the offense were inept in a 9-6 loss to Tennessee in between. And it will be loud at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday afternoon. So, that means that communication will be difficult, and also, changing the plays, too. One guy who is a fan is CBS TV play by play man Jim Nantz, who praised Bortles’ play/progress in this interview on Thursday.

Let’s see if he’s worth the praise this week or struggles.

Finally, Ramsey vs. Hill will be fun

Even though they won’t be matched all the time on Sunday, speedy Tyreek Hill of the Chiefs has been talking about going against Jags Pro Bowl DB Jalen Ramsey head to head. As we wrote, Ramsey downplayed it earlier this week, but you know he loves these kind of challenges. Mahomes has plenty of targets, but Hill is one of the fastest players in Pro football. And he’s averaging 16 yards per catch this season.

“Get your popcorn” when #10 in Chiefs red trots out wide and #20 in Jags white and teal goes over to line up across from him.
