Jacksonville Jaguars rookie RB Leonard Fournette left in the fourth quarter of the Jaguars eventual 27-17 loss to the Rams on Sunday with what appeared to be an ankle injury. At the time he was listed as questionable to return, and the team wasn’t aware of the extent of the injury.
Fournette was taken to the medical tent first, and then, he was seen jogging on the sideline. Fox TV, who broadcasted the game, reported that Fournette was actually available to return. However, Doug Marrone and the coaching staff decided not to take a chance being down 10 late in the 4th quarter.
Before the injury, Fournette had 130 yards of 21 carries, which included this spectacular 75 yard TD run on the first play from scrimmage in the first quarter.

That touchdown put the rookie first round pick out of LSU into the NFL record books, as he joins Robert Edwards of the Patriots as the only two rookies to score a TD in the first six games of their rookie season.
Fournette already had the accolade earlier in the week of having the Pro Football Hall of Fame ask for and receive his white game jersey used in last weeks game at Pittsburgh. This, after Fournette became the youngest player in league history to have a 90 or more yard TD run from scrimmage in a game.
Back to Sunday night and the ankle injury.
Obviously, this is good news that it doesn’t look like a serious injury. Fournette told reporters in the locker room after the game, “I just twisted my ankle. I’m fine.”
But, with replays showing him hyper-extending his knee and having the ankle buckle, there is still concern until there’s official diagnosis.
Fournette battled ankle problems in his final college season a year ago. This included missing LSU’s huge showdown loss at home to Florida last November, and was nagged by the injury enough that he couldn’t play in their bowl game win over Louisville.
