Concern for Jaguars Marqise Lee knee injury Saturday night

It’s the biggest fear for players and coaches in preseason, a serious injury. And, unfortunately there is real concern for Jaguars receiver Marqise Lee after a nasty looking knee injury occurred for him in the first quarter of the game with the Atlanta Falcons.

Lee was hit by Falcons reserve defensive back Damontae Kazee on this play and it’s obvious that his left leg contorted at an awkward angle:

First, you have to be careful with overreaction to something that looks like that. However, it’s not just a simple twist of the ankle for Lee on that play. And when, teammate Leonard Fournette came over immediately to pray beside him while he was being tended to, and then Lee was carted off, you knew it wasn’t good.

The Jags announced quickly that he would not return to the game.

And then came an interesting “on the fly” diagnosis from the video from an insightful orthopedic surgeon who’s part of Dr. Selene Parekh, who is part of their web and video coverage for fantasy players:

So, at the moment, it appears that the best case is a sprain and Lee misses perhaps time at the beginning of the season.

Coach Doug Marrone did not sound optimistic in his post game press conference late Saturday night:

Marrone told the media, “It looked bad. I’m waiting for the doc to tell me so I can tell you guys.”

We await the official word from the Jaguars on the severity of Lee’s injury, and it looks like it won’t come until Sunday or maybe, beyond.
